Description

The formation volume factor and gas-oil ratio of crude oil obtained from PVT testing are essential and important data for reserve estimation and reservoir development design, which can directly affect the accuracy of the oil reserve and oil production rate. In this paper, the influence of the PVT testing methods on these two parameters was discussed based on the definition of the formation volume factor and the gas-oil ratio, and a modified method for PVT testing and parameter calculation was proposed. The current PVT testing and data process methods were illustrated using data from literature and the domestic oilfield PVT reports, and the existing problems in the current oilfield PVT reports were found out along with a correcting method was given. The results show that the formation volume factor and gas-oil ratio in the current domestic oilfield PVT reports are greater than their real values. So the oil reserve calculated based on the parameters in the domestic oilfield PVT reports can be under-estimated. 2022, Editorial Office of Journal of China University of Petroleum(Edition of Natural Science).
